I checked out the badlands in north dakota a couple times as was always really impressed, quite amazing landscape down there. And the awesome unit is an excellent stop for sure. Have you tried the pancakes and the wifi?

Southern Utah is my favourite destination, so many National Parks. Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion....the scenery is straight out of a Coyote/Road Runner cartoon.

Bryce Canyon is breathtaking, and you can hike down into the hoodoos

One time I gathered up the nerve to hike to the top of Angel's Landing... at some points you're hanging onto a chain with certain death should you slip off the ledge http://images.google.ca/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=angel%27s+landing

Dave: I never did get a chance to do any hiking. Maybe next time! Drumheller is awesome as well, but I haven't been there for 20 years. I really should get out there. Maybe next summer... Sounds like you've had some awesome trips though there!

Dorothy: I'm glad you're at ease now! I'm going to enjoy my time in Calgary for sure.

Heh, I too have gassed up in Medora. Badlands are aweseome, hope you got some time to get out of the car and onto a hiking trail or two. In Alberta, the valley north and south from Drumheller is pretty badland like; at the north end is the Bleriot ferry across the Red Deer River, a ferry crossing so short that if they had 3 ferries, they could string them together to make a bridge http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=drumheller+ab&ie=UTF8&ll=51.572769,-112.884779&spn=0.003221,0.009356&t=k&z=17

Anyway, I ramble, sounds like a great road trip... be sure to do Route 66 from Chicago to LA sometime.
